North America like we know it was destroyed. The Capitol rules with an iron fist about the 12 districts where the people fight for their every day survival. To remind them of worse times, rebellions and uprisings, there’re each year the Hunger Games. In every district, two teenagers, one boy and one girl between 12 and 18 years old are chosen to take part into them; that means fighting to death on live TV. There’s just one rule: Stay alive!

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen lives in District 12 and has to support her mother and her twelve-year-old sister after her father died. When Prim, her little sister is chosen to go to the Hunger Games, she immediately volunteers for her and sees herself as nearly dead. Along with Peeta, the male tribute from her district, she travels to the Capitol to prepare herself for the games. But is Peeta just one of her enemys? And what about her friend Gale back home?

Soon Katniss isn’t only between 23 persons who’d like to kill her but also confused by her own feelings…

For me this book is the best newcomer in the last year. Normally I don’t like science fiction very much, but this book took my breath away, from the first page until the last one. It contains a lot of action and a really cute love story mixed up with refreshing sarcasm. Right now this is my favourite book, but I don’t want to tell you too much, so just read it yourself, you won’t regret it! ☜

  3. This will be my first fantasy fiction having a female protagonist. I hope I will enjoy it.
