Guy jumps from a tall building. Everybody thinks he smashed on the floor. Nothing happens for one, two, three seconds, and suddenly… voilà! He appears again, alive and kicking! Because, you know, he landed on a flying car/gryphon/magic carpet/gigantic eagle! Have you ever seen that on a movie? Well, I have seen it not once, but FOUR TIMES! Yeah, it’s incredible that so specific scenes like this become clichés.
1) Back to the Future II
Biff has put Marty in a horrible dilemma: he whether dies being shot in the head or dies throwing himself from the rooftop. What Biff doesn’t know is that there’s a third option: jumping on a flying DeLorean! Guess which option Marty chose 😛
2) Prince Caspian
Edmund is unarmed and confronting two stronger men who do have swords. There’s no chance for poor Edmund, is it? Goodbye cruel world, it’s better if I jump from this very tall tower… and it’s even better if I land on a friendly gryphon! (BTW, I’m sorry for the awful quality of the video).
When Aladdin realizes Jasmine is out of his league, he kind of gives up and throws himself from the balcony of her room. NOO!!!, Jasmine cries. What, what? Aladdin answers, as if the most common thing in the world had just happened. How… how are you doing that? Oh, you know… I’ve got a magic carpet, no big deal.
4) The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
When I was watching The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010), I saw once again, a guy jumping from a skyscraper. This time I already knew what was going to happen, and after a huge eagle appeared with the man on its back, my brother told me: Hey, another one for your blog! So here it is 🙂 Unfortunately, with no video this time. Couldn’t find any
And that’s it for now… But as always, you know that you can tell us about other movies (or series, or books, or whatever) in which this cliché appears (BTW, is it also in Lord of the Rings?).
